The Moot Hall Originally built in the 15th Century by Sir Robert D'Arcy, this historic building with its own prison and court has been at the centre of local government in Maldon since 1576. The Moot Hall contains many interesting features including a medieval spiral brick staircase, Dickensian Court House, Georgian Council Chamber and the remnants of an old borough gaol with prisoners exercise yard. The Moot Hall is open Saturdays, March to October (inclusive) by way of tour, 2.00pm and 3.30pm. Tours outside these times can be arranged with Maldon Town Council. Telephone (01621) 857373.
