QuickTime or Java?

QuickTime

To view QuickTime VR (or QTVR) you need the QuickTime Plug-In, Apple’s FREE cross platform multi media player. QuickTime is one of the most popular multimedia technologies and in addition being able to view QuickTime VR panoramas, it enables you to view numerous types of digital media for both Macintosh and PC.

QuickTime comes pre-installed on all Macintosh computers. PC users can easily download and install QuickTime from the Apple website. Click here for further instructions.

QuickTime offers slightly better image quality over java, especially when viewing the higher resolution full screen 360º panoramas, and we believe the download is well worthwhile.

Java

As an alternative to QuickTime VR we also offer 360º Java panoramas, primarily for PC users who do not want to install QuickTime. The advantage of Java is that the majority of web browsers have built-in java support so you do not need to download any further software.

The functionality of the two systems is very much the same, as is the way they are viewed by the user.

Windows XP users may not have java pre installed but you can download and install the latest Java Virtual Machine from Sun Microsystems at http://www.java.com/en/index.asp Simply click the ‘Free Download – Java Software’ at the top right of the page.
