A 'Noiseless Remington' typewriter
Churchill was a severe taskmaster, frequently
obliging his personal secretaries and typists to
work well past midnight. As a result Churchill’s
secretaries did not bother with shorthand note
taking and typed straight from the Prime Minister’s
dictation. This might reasonably explain his
infamous dislike of the noise of typewriters which
led to the custom-made ‘silent’ typewriters,
examples of which were kept at all of his regular
working locations.
