Scott's Grotto for East Herts. District Council

Robing Room

Specification: Standalone virtual tour microsite

For: Internet based tourism virtual tour and DDA requirement

John Scott’s Grotto is, according to English Heritage, one of the best Victorian grottos. To comply with D.D.A. (Disability Discrimination Act) guidelines to provide access to the grotto, Pan 3Sixty were commissioned by East Herts. District Council to produce a virtual tour micro-site.

With the 'Robing Room' and adjoining tunnels in complete darkness, we were presented with a problem of how to produce the necessary photographs. Our solution was to light the chamber with portable studio soft boxes. The finished panorama above is a composite of three separate 360° panoramas, each of which was photographed with the soft boxes carefully placed so as to provide even lighting in the areas required. The final composite panorama is a unique, never before seen view of the Robing Room.

Once all the panoramas and still images were finished they were incorporated into a custom designed, stand-alone micro-site with accompanying maps and text. The micro-site now provides visitors who are unable to see the grotto in person with a comprehensive tour of this Hertfordshire tourist attraction.
